Our History

Welcome to Kidder's RV Seasonal Campground, a place where the vision of one determined man continues to thrive, offering families a peaceful, lakeside retreat for generations to come. Here, the spirit of community and a love for the outdoors are at the heart of everything we do.

Kidder's RV Seasonal Campground was brought to life by the late Mr. George “Don” Gordy, a man whose life story is one of hard work, perseverance, and a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures. Born on November 4, 1930, in Claxton, Georgia, Mr. Gordy grew up with humble beginnings. He joined the U.S. Army, proudly serving his country before settling in the Southern Tier of New York. There, he built a successful career as a master plumber and owner-operator of GPP Inc. With his entrepreneurial spirit and a love for the outdoors, Mr. Gordy dreamed of creating a space where families could come together, embrace nature, and create lasting memories.

Mr. Gordy’s journey to the Finger Lakes region began with a deep love for the beauty of the area. He was captivated by the serene lakes, rolling hills, and picturesque landscape, which led him to move to the region. As an avid fisherman, he spent countless hours exploring the Finger Lakes and discovering the hidden gems of the area. It was during his time on Seneca Lake that he met his wife, Linda, marking the beginning of a lifelong partnership and a shared passion for the Finger Lakes’ natural beauty. Together, they envisioned a community where families could escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and reconnect with nature. This vision inspired the creation of an affordable lakeside campground that would provide generations of families with a welcoming space to enjoy the outdoors and build treasured memories.

In 1990, after years of searching, Mr. Gordy found the perfect piece of land to bring his dream to life. Situated on the west side of Cayuga Lake, near Kidder’s Landing, the property offered the ideal setting for his vision. Cayuga Lake, the longest of New York's glacial Finger Lakes, stretches just under 39 miles long and 3.5 miles wide, providing a stunning backdrop for the campground. After successful negotiations with the previous owners, Mr. Gordy acquired the land and began the development of what would become Kidder’s RV Seasonal Campground.

The journey began with a modest plan, focusing on the development of roadside sites. Once these sites were filled, Mr. Gordy quickly recognized the joy the park was bringing to families and visitors, and the campground began to expand. The demand for more space grew as word spread about the beauty and tranquility of the park, and soon, more sites were added to meet the increasing interest. Over time, the campground flourished into a thriving seasonal retreat, becoming a beloved destination for outdoor enthusiasts seeking a safe, relaxing, and welcoming environment to enjoy the stunning Finger Lakes region.

Today, Kidder’s RV Seasonal Campground remains a testament to Mr. Gordy’s vision and dedication. It continues to be a place where families of all generations come together to experience the joys of nature, relaxation, and adventure.
